Office Visits:

  • Initial visit with the nurse: 6-8 weeks
  • Initial visit with the doctor: ~8 weeks
  • Up to 32 weeks: Every 4 weeks
  • 32-36 weeks: Every 2 weeks
  • 36 weeks until delivery: Every week
Depending on the risk or complications with your pregnancy, additional appointments may be scheduled. At each visit, your BP and weight will be checked, and you will be asked to leave a urine sample.


  • Initial prenatal labs: blood type, syphilis, Hep B, and HIV status, rubella immunity, blood count, urinalysis, pap smear, and gonorrhea and Chlamydia vaginal cultures.
  • 15-17 weeks: Optional screening test for neural tube defects and Down’s Syndrome.
  • 28 weeks: 1hr. glucose screening, blood count, and syphilis status.
  • 36 weeks: Group B Strep swab. This culture tests for bacteria that naturally occurs in 20-25% of women. While it is not harmful to the mom, it can cause problems with the baby. If mom tests positive, antibiotics will be started during labor. If mom tests negative, no antibiotics are needed.
  • Based on the patient’s age, risk factors, or complications, additional labs may be offered or required.
