What is an Ablation?

An endometrial ablation is a non-invasive surgical option to treat heavy periods in premenopausal women who are done having children. In an endometrial ablation, the innermost lining of the uterus is ablated, or made not to function, but no incisions are made and the uterus is left intact.

How Is It Treated?

There are several different methods that can be used to perform an endometrial ablation. At Heartland Ob/Gyn, our surgeons utilize Novasure as the main method of ablating the endometrium. The procedure can be done in the hospital or in our office.

What Can I Expect?

Nine out of 10 women report a return to normal or lighter periods. About 50% of women will stop having periods completely. There is virtual no recovery time and most women will return to normal activities the next day.
